Can I Eat Orange If I Have Kidney Disease

For kidney disease patients, they have a strict dietary principles. Therefore, they should pay much more attention to their diet in daily life. Well then, can kidney disease patients eat orange?

Orange has many benefits as follows:

1. Rich nutrition in orange has function to lower blood lipid and against atherosis, so eating orange regularly will help to lower the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.

2. Orange juice contain a substance which is named as Nomilin and it has function to kill cancer kill. Therefore, eating orange can help to prevent gastric cancer.

3. Help to replenish vitamin C.

4. Orange also contain citric acid which shows great effects on remitting fatigue.

5. Hesperidin can increase the ductility of blood capillary and lower blood pressure.

6. Dietary fiber in oranges promotes defecation.

7. Dry orange peel can help to remit vomit, nausea, cough and abdominal distension and so on.

8. Drinking orange juice may inhibit a certain type of kidney stone.

Can kidney disease patients eat orange?

Aside from abundant vitamin C, orange also contains lots of potassium. Kidney has function to keep electrolyte balance. However, because of decreased kidney function, large amounts of potassium build up in the blood. Therefore, kidney disease patients are at high risk to develop high potassium level which can lead to arrhythmia and myasthenia. In this light, being cautions about foods with high potassium is very necessary. So as a conclusion, whether kidney disease patients can eat orange should depends on their potassium level.
